Pourquoi Pas Island
APPROXIMATELY 71% OF OUR PLANET IS WATER
This collection was taken around the 27km long island Pourquoi Pas; discovered during the Fifth French Antarctic Expedition (1908 - 1910) under the command of Jean-Baptiste Charcot.
Normally sea ice acts to insulate the ocean from heat loss, but over the continental shelves of Antarctica sea ice is blown northward by the strong winds descending over the cold glacial ice sheet of Antarctica. At the freezing point (~ -2°C) Antarctic Bottom Water is formed with high oxygen concentration and is produced during the winter as cold polar air masses spread over the adjacent ocean. The process of sea ice formation generates shelf water with high salinity (typically > 34.61%) making it very dense. Some areas in Antarctica produce the densest water in the oceans.
WITHOUT IT ALL LIFE WOULD CEASE TO EXIST
Still The Mind
Elemental energy
FROM WHICH ALL LIFE IS CREATED
Water is the most powerful element in our natural world and is one of the four elemental energies from which all life is created. It permeates every aspect of our being, as well as our planet. It gives us life and moves through us as life force energy. Without it, all life would cease to exist.
It has the power to transform and reflect our inner state like a mirror. It can open our minds to areas where we need to shift form, adapt, and let go to cultivate more openness. As long as water is in motion it has the capability to sustain life. As long as we are aware of and accepting of our emotional state, and give it the space required to move, flow, adapt and change, we can find peace.
As Above, So Below
ENERGY IN MOTION
GRACE AND POWER
In ancient traditions water is portrayed as our emotional body. It is often described as feminine, transformational, and cleansing. It moves with effortless grace and power in an endless cycle.
Emotions at their core are energy in motion. Akin to water that sits still turning stagnant and decayed, if we attempt to block our emotions and not allow them their own expression they become stuck, and create what is known in some philosophies as a Samskara. Samskara’s are impressions, psychological imprints of thoughts, actions, and patterns; and they can take the form of depression, illness, or physical pain.
